What is the Legacy Cross Project?
What is the Women of EEE Legacy Cross Project?
The Women of EEE Centennial Project is a gift to Ouachita Baptist University in honor of the sorority’s 100th anniversary. The project includes a lighted cross at the campus entrance, a red rose garden, and benches for reflection, symbolizing the group’s legacy of faith and sisterhood.
Why was a cross chosen as the gift?
Though Ouachita boldly proclaims the Gospel, the campus has never had a permanent, visible cross. As women rooted in faith, the EEEs felt called to fill this need, providing a beacon of Christ’s love and a reminder of the university’s Christian foundation.
What elements will the project include?
The project will feature a lighted cross, a red rose garden (symbolizing the EEE flower), reflection benches, and permanent markers honoring the legacy of the Women of EEE.
Where will the cross be located?
The cross and surrounding garden will be placed at the entrance of Ouachita’s campus, near Cone-Bottoms Hall, where the Women of EEE was founded in 1925.
Who is building the project?
The project will be constructed by Baldwin & Shell, a trusted construction firm with a longstanding relationship with Ouachita Baptist University.
How much does the project cost?
The estimated project cost is $750,000, with a stretch goal of $800,000 to establish an endowment for long-term maintenance of the cross and garden.
When is the fundraising deadline?
Funds must be raised or pledged by May 31, 2025, for construction to begin. Pledges can be fulfilled over a period of up to three years, with a final payment deadline of December 31, 2028.
What are the giving levels?
Giving societies range from the Sisterhood Society (up to $499) to the 1925 Society ($100,000). Higher-level gifts may include engraved names on benches or plaques in the rose garden.
Can I make a pledge instead of a one-time gift?
Yes, you can pledge a gift and fulfill it over time, up until December 31, 2028. This option allows donors to make a significant impact while spreading contributions over multiple years.
Are there tax benefits for donating stock?
Yes, donating appreciated stock can provide tax advantages, such as avoiding capital gains tax and receiving a charitable deduction for the stock’s full market value.
How can I donate?
You can give online, mail a check to Ouachita, or donate stock. More details are available by contactingCarrieRoberson atrobersonc@obu.eduor calling (870) 245-4278.
